I’m always on the lookout for a good workout class that’ll kick my butt. You know, the kind of class that leaves you struggling to move afterwards. There’s something super invigorating about a high intensity workout, which is why I was eager to give kickboxing a try. Lucky for me, a CKO Kickboxing studio opened up right down the street from me so I signed up for a Groupon class package.
I arrived to my first class early and was able to watch the previous class finishing up – rows and rows of dog-tired people excessively sweating in front of their punching bags while the instructor shouted out “stay strong!” I was pumped; I was ready. The next hour of my life that followed was a brutal, yet exhilarating, kickboxing mix of toning, cardio and calisthenics. Any pent-up frustrations I had were taken out on the punching bag in the form of hooks, jabs, kicks and more. I left the class feeling as if a weight had been lifted off my shoulders and my mind felt free.
Kickboxing is now one of my favorite workouts. I would highly suggest it to anyone. And while you might be thinking, “Lauren, I don’t feel like getting my ass kicked,” have no fear because you go at your own pace. I chose to kick my own ass. As with any good exercise class, the instructor advises you to work at your own skill level and desired speed.
