Try This: Ditch Your Old Razor

Let’s talk razors. Most people use them on a near-daily basis, but it’s likely that shaving has become so ingrained in your grooming regimen that you rarely give it a second thought. That is, until it’s time to pay for a new pack of replacement razor cartridges at the checkout line and they ring up at a whopping $25 for 8.

Let’s delve into a little bit of math here.  For years I used Gillette Venus razors, which cost approx $3.12 per cartridge. Changing the cartridge every 2 weeks would equate to a total spending of $82 per year on razors (or $164 per year if the cartridge was changed weekly)!  That’s a decent chunk of change.

Lucky for us, the razor industry has been shaken up by new, affordable consumer options such as Dollar Shave Club and  These websites claim to offer quality razors at a better value by offering their products directly to consumers online.

A better razor at a better price? This seemed like a no-brainer to me, so after a bit of research I decided to give a try.  I ordered the 5-blade women’s razor cartridges, which include a free handle with your first order.  I bought 12 cartridges for $25.95, equating to $2.16 per razor.  That’s almost $1 savings per cartridge compared to my old razor. Not so bad!  (Let it be known: I’m a frugal person).

And what about the performance?  I was pleasantly surprised by the 800Razor 5-blade cartridge.  The quality is definitely equal to, if not better, than the Venus razor.  I also think the 800Razor doesn’t dull quite as fast as the Venus (but maybe I’m imagining that).

The verdict? I’ve officially moved from Team Gillette to Team 800Razors.  Who wouldn’t?  The shipping was free and if you buy in bulk, you’ll save even more. Plus, they offer a Burn-Free Guarantee so you’ve got nothing to lose.
